# Claude Opus 4.8 Is Now Available

Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.8 at the same price as before. It is now the flagship Claude model in AI Data Stream, with Opus 4.7 kept as the previous generation.

Anthropic released **Claude Opus 4.8** today. It is now the flagship Anthropic model in AI Data Stream. Opus 4.7 remains available as the previous generation, so you can compare the two on your own analytics before switching.

## Pricing

Anthropic prices Opus 4.8 the same as the previous Opus models on the standard API we use:

- **Input:** $5 per million tokens
- **Output:** $25 per million tokens

Because the price is unchanged, moving to 4.8 is a straight upgrade for most workloads.

## What's New

Anthropic reports broad benchmark gains and sharper judgement on agentic tasks — notably, Opus 4.8 is around four times less likely to let a code or data flaw pass unremarked. See [Anthropic's announcement](https://www.anthropic.com/news/claude-opus-4-8) for the full details.

## Opus 4.6 Has Been Retired

We have removed Opus 4.6 from the model picker. If it was your default, you will move to **Opus 4.8** automatically the next time you start a conversation — no action needed. Opus 4.7 is still available if you prefer to stay on the previous generation.

## Effort Levels

Opus 4.8 supports the full effort scale: **low, medium, high, xhigh, max**. The same scale is available on Opus 4.7.

## The Full Claude Lineup

- **Claude Sonnet 4.6** — Best balance of speed and capability
- **Claude Opus 4.8** — Latest frontier model
- **Claude Opus 4.7** — Previous generation
- **Claude Haiku 4.5** — Fastest, great for quick queries
