Claude Opus 4.6 Is Now Available
Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.6 today. We have automatically transitioned all Opus 4.5 users - here is what it means for your analytics.
Anthropic launched Claude Opus 4.6 today, and we have already updated AI Data Stream to support it. If you were using Opus 4.5, you have been automatically transitioned - no action needed on your part.
What Changed for You
Nothing you need to do. If Opus 4.5 was your default model, AI Data Stream now routes those requests to Opus 4.6 automatically. Your API key, settings, and conversations all remain the same.
Anthropic’s pricing is unchanged - Opus 4.6 costs the same as Opus 4.5 on your Anthropic bill:
- Input: $5 per million tokens
- Output: $25 per million tokens
You get a better model at exactly the same price from Anthropic.
What Is Better in Opus 4.6
Based on Anthropic’s announcement, here are the improvements that matter most for analytics users:
Better Long-Context Performance
Opus 4.6 significantly reduces “context rot” - the tendency for AI to lose track of information in long conversations. On Anthropic’s retrieval benchmark (MRCR v2), it scores 76% compared to just 18.5% for the previous generation. This means more accurate responses when you are deep into a multi-step analysis with lots of data.
Improved Reasoning and Planning
Opus 4.6 leads all frontier models on reasoning benchmarks. For analytics, this translates to better performance when you ask complex questions that combine data from multiple sources - for example, correlating Google Ads spend with CRM pipeline data and Search Console trends.
Double the Output Length
Maximum output increased from 64K to 128K tokens. This is particularly useful for report generation - longer, more detailed reports without hitting output limits.
Adaptive Thinking
Opus 4.6 introduces adaptive thinking, where the model automatically decides when a problem needs deeper reasoning versus a quick answer. Quick questions get fast responses; complex analysis gets the deeper thought it requires.
What About Sonnet and Haiku?
No changes to the other Claude models. The full lineup is now:
- Claude Opus 4.6 - Most intelligent, best for complex analysis
- Claude Sonnet 4.5 - Best balance of speed and capability
- Claude Haiku 4.5 - Fastest, great for quick queries
